USA: Mysterious Nazi submarine from WWII discovered in Great Lakes – World News Daily Report

Comments Charles McCain: Wow! An exciting headline about mysterious Nazi sub discovered in Lake Ontario and identified by someone as the experimental UX-791. (The photograph which accompanies the article appears to be a Soviet November Class submarine).

Alas for conspiracy theorists, this is not a German U-Boat from World War Two. There is no listing of a UX-791 in the entire list of German Uboat numbers including those never built.

Nor is UX a letter combination the Germans used. They had various types of uboats but all of them were U-then a number. ( Except for the very confusing uboat mentioned in Das Boot as UA…………that was a type VII boat being built for the Turks when war broke out————hence, unterseeboot ausland or UA. The only one so designated).

U791 was to have been an experimental boat and was ordered but the order was canceled and the boat was never even laid down.
