(June 4, 2008) – Families on the pier at Naval Station Norfolk await the return of Sailors onboard the guided missile USS Winston Churchill (DDG 81) after a seven month deployment. Nearly 7,500 Sailors have returned to their homeports from a regularly scheduled deployment with the Harry S Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) Wednesday, June 4, after supporting Maritime Security Operations in the 5th and 6th Fleets Areas of Operation. Carrier Air Wing Three, the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG 56) and the guided missile destroyers USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), also return to Norfolk. The Mayport, Fla.-based Sailors from the guided missile cruiser USS Hue City (CG 66) and guided missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) will arrive at their homeport on June 4; and the fast combat support ship USNS Artic (T-AOE 8) from Naval Weapons Station Earle, N.J. has returned.
