EAST CHINA SEA (June 22, 2012) – The US Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) participates in a photo exercise (PHOTOEX) with ships from the George Washington Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) during a trilateral exercise to include a CSG. The exercise included integrated helicopters operations, visit, board, search and seizure exchanges and demonstration, communication links, interoperability, dynamic ship maneuvers, and liaison officer exchanges. The trilateral events improve interoperability, readiness and the capability to respond quickly to various situations in the region, ranging from disaster relief to maritime security activities.
