Utah’s Love Affair With Porno

It’s easy to make fun of Utah because there is so much to make fun of. Moral hypocrisy for one. As far as I am concerned, Utah is the most hypocritical state in the union. Why? Because Utah leads America in the online purchase of pornography. Yes, that’s right; Utah — that conservative, “American values,” or “Utah values” or “Midwestern values” place. This according to a study by Harvard University of online pornography consumption published in 2009 by Benjamin Edelman, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School cited in PC World Magazine.

This is in line with McCain’s Law of Follow the Pointing Finger. Whenever someone points their finger at another person and accuses that person of sexual impropriety, then simply follow the pointed finger back to the person who is pointing the finger and you will discover it is the pointer who is actually engaging in said illicit activity.

Utah is a state dominated by the Mormons who aren’t even allowed to flog the dolphin and yet an awful lot of flogging must be going on. For shame. Says the Salt Lake City Tribune, citing the study:

Utah has the nation’s highest online porn subscription rate per thousand home broadband users, at 5.47, while the nearby states of Idaho and Montana showed the lowest rates of 1.98 and 1.92, respectively…

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.

“Even when I control for income, age, education, and marital status, Utah residents still consume disproportionately more (pornography) than people from other states,” said Professor Edelman.
