Pic of the Day – Talisman Saber 2011

TOWNSHEND ISLAND, Queensland, Australia – July 14, 2011 Australian Army Bombardier Mark Staples, from Joint Terminal Attack Control Troop, 1st Ground Liaison Group, pauses a moment during Talisman Sabre 2011. During TS11 in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area, US and Australian Defence Force troops conducted a Combined Joint Live Fire Exercise. Direct fire power from FA-18 Super Hornets, Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopters, US Marine 81mm Mortar Platoon, Weapons Company, BLT 2/7, and ships from the Australian and US Navy participated in the exercise as well as Joint Tactical Attack Controllers who coordinated the fire power for the day and night serials. TS2011 is a US-led, Australian-supported bilateral exercise that is aimed at training US and Australian forces in planning and conducting combined operations and improving US-Australian interoperability.
