North Atlantic Ocean (Oct. 24, 2001) — Sea spray whips across the deck of the USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) as the ship plows through rough seas in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The Norfolk, Va.-based destroyer is returning home after completing a deployment to the United Kingdom and Norway. The ship is named in honor of Sir Winston Spencer Leonard Churchill (1874-1965), best known for his courageous leadership as British Prime Minister during World War II.
