Extra! US Navy Off Japan!

A headline such as this in 1945 would have meant something entirely different than it does today. It shows how history changes as time goes on. Once an enemy, Japan is a long time friend and an ally of the United States so the US Navy is steaming off Japan providing critical assistance to Japanese civilians. Given the world we live in today when our Navy must often make war to protect our nation, it is inspiring to see our sailors also “making peace”. These are official US Navy photos.
