The PBY Catalina: Catalinas operated as night convoy raiders in the Pacific. Outfitted with special gear and painted flat black, they were known as “Black Cats” and succeeded in sinking 112,700 tons and damaging 47,000 tons of merchant shipping while damaging 10 Japanese warships between August 1943 and January 1944.
