The HMS Hood: The Hood’s vulnerabilities were further highlighted during live fire trials between launch and commissioning that showed that 15 inch capped armour piercing shells could penetrate Hood’s belt and deck armour and plunge into the vitals of the ship. Proposals were made to add extra armour over forward and rear magazines to compensate but the additional armour was never fitted.
