  1. Richard Evans, in his recent 3 volume history of the 3rd Reich offers an excellent analysis of Hitler’s relationship with the Christian churches, Catholic and Protestant. For raw cynicism, it’s hard to beat. Though there were notable individual exceptions, none of the major Christian religions can escape the charges that they dealt with the devil for their own selfish reasons. Not their proudest moments.
